Francis, Rogers set national 800 records 
on day 5 of Junior Olympics 

OMAHA -- Brooklyn's Phyllis Francis smashed the national youth record in the intermediate girls' 800-meters with a stunning 2:04.83 Saturday on a record-ravaged day five of the 42nd USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Championships at Burke High School. The Team Evolution member, who ran 2:08.36 to win the intermediate title last year, clipped almost two seconds off the previous record of 2:06.64, set in 2006 by Chanelle Price. click here to read more


OLATHE, Kan. - Nike Central Park Track Club (Metropolitan) and the Kansas City Smoke (Missouri Valley) claimed the women's and men's team titles, respectively, this weekend at the USATF National Club Track & Field Championships in Olathe, Kansas. Nike Central Park Track Club used a well-balanced effort by both its men's and women's squads to also claim the combined team title over VS Athletics (Southern California), 298.5 to 267 points.
Scoring in 18 of 24 events, the Nike Central Park TC women tallied 178 points, with VS Athletics (Southern California) scoring 143 points to claim second place. Norfolk Real Deal (Virginia), finished third with 110 points, Greater Boston TC (New England), the 2002, 2005, and 2006 champions, scored 98 points, and Brockport Distance Project (Niagara) scored 53 points to round out the top five. "We've been eyeing this title for years, but it took an incredible team effort to clinch it," stated Nike Central Park TC head coach Devon Martin. "So many athletes ran their hearts out -- doubling and tripling to get points -- and every throw, jump, and hurdle made the difference. Gustafson and Esposito head to USA National 25k Championship! 
USATF has awarded travel grants to Lauren Gustafson and Lauren Esposito to compete at the USA National 25k Championships this Saturday.  These travel grants are awarded under USATF's Association Athlete Program, a program designed to develop the next generation of great American distance runners. 
 
Lauren Gustafson was the Top 8th American at the prestigious Philadelphia Half-Marathon and recently the 15k Runner-up at the NYRR Colon Cancer Challenge.  Ms. Gustafson runs for Nike Central Park Track Club.  Her teammate, Lauren Esposito, is the NYRR Norwegian Festival Half-Marathon Champion and was also the 2002 NYRR Grand Prix Half-Marathon Champion.
Both athletes will represent USATF Metropolitan at this Championship.

The Executives Shine at the 2008 Penn Relays
The A team of Kendel Stevens, Phillippe DeRosier, Lee Prowell and Julien Dunkley showed that we are a force to be reckoned with running a time of 39.82.  The B team of Kevin Logan, Demitrius McCloud, James Law and Kwesi Sarabo (40.49) were in true form as the finished in 3rd position to the A team and US Elite.
 
The male 4x400m was a last minute set up as our top 400m runners had the great honor of running for their countries - Adrian Findlay and Dwayne Barrett for Jamaica and Jamaal Torrence for the United States. Newcomers Allan Haye and Marvin Esser teamed up with our two hurdlers Dwight Ruff and Marqueth Tard.  They won easily with a time of 3:12.58.
 
In the Olympic development men's 100m, Kendal Stevens placed 3rd in10.46 and Lee Prowell placed 7th in10.53.
Dwight Ruff placed 3rd in the 400m hurdles clocking 51.04, Marqueth Tard 6th in 51.99 and new comer Asuerus Thomas 8th in 55.22s.
Lashandra Ratcliff, Lauren Smith, Michelle Burger and Angelique Smith easily won their heat in the 4x100m with a time of 45.10s.  This was only good enough for 3rd, as late arrivals USA team won the next section with a better time. 
 The Lady Executives went on to dominate the 4x400m as Tacita Bass, new comer Erin Crawford, Meka Thompson and Angelique Smith won by over 80m in 3:40.89s.  
 Lauren Smith placed 6th. in the 100m hurdles in 13.97s.
 On Saturday of the Penn Relays, Lauren Smith and Meka Thompson were invited to run on the sprint medley of the USA against the World squad.
 Several members of the Executive Track Club will be traveling to Europe this summer to compete.
 
 
USATF – METROPOLITAN 5K Grand Prix Series
USATF – Metropolitan wants to invite you to participate in its new, exciting 5k Grand Prix series. The series will feature top runners from the New York area and will develop long distance runners of all ability levels.

Records fall at World Masters Championships   Americans are leading the way in rewriting the record books at the 2008 World Masters Indoor Athletics Championships in Clermont-Ferrand, France. U.S. masters stars setting records include Val Barnwell, who set a new M50 world record in the 60 meters. Barnwell crossed the finish line Tuesday in 7.18 seconds, in a performance that would have won the M45 age group title. His time bettered the previous M50 world record of 7.20 seconds set by Bill Collins in 2002.

2007 World Masters Championship
The US team of 430 “Registered” athletes captured 193 Medals close behind the hosting Italian team with a list of registered athletes toppling 3000 and a medal count of 219. Team Germany however tipped the scale with the largest number of medals won and a team registration of 878 athletes. The Metropolitan Association is proud to announce, Twenty-five of the athletes representing team USA are active members of the Metropolitan Association “MAC”. Our home town favorites captured 7-Gold, 11-Silver, and 2-Bronze medals, totaling 20 medals in the overall medal count.

Dalilah Muhammad (Novas Track Club) July 13, 2007 OSTRAVA, Czech Republic - Dalilah Muhammad (Jamaica, N.Y. MAC Team NY Nova's athlete) won the girls' 400 meter hurdles and Ryann Krais (Eagleville, Pa.) was third to lead Team USA to a strong performance Friday at the 5th IAAF World Youth Championships in Ostrava. The U.S. tops the medal table after three days with seven. Muhammad, the owner of the fastest youth time in the world this year, had to overcome a personal best by Romania's Andreea Ionescu, edging past the Romanian in the final 10 meters to stop the clock at 57.25. Krais was third in 57.50. "It was a hard race," Muhammad said. "Every race, I try to push hard, and I did what I came to do. I knew the Romanian girl was very strong after the prelims, and coming off the final hurdle behind her I knew I just had to go as hard as I could to the line."

Natalie Gingerich has qualified for the USA National Championship in the 1500 meters! Natalie will race against the nation's best on Saturday at 5:55pm. This USA Championship will serve as the selection meet for the World Championship in Spain March 7-9.


Natalie Gingerich will represent Nike Central Park Track Club at the USA National Championship 1500 meters this Saturday at Boston's Reggie Lewis Center. Gingerich was the runner-up in last summer's USA National 1500 meter Club Championships, and placed third with a time of 4:43 in the 5th Avenue mile. A graduate of Cornell University, Gingerich ran 2:08 in the 800 meters and 2:47 in the 1000 meters. This Saturday she hopes to place in the top 7 of a very talented field and improve her time as the Olympic Trials grow closer.
